How can we help?

At Brighton & Hove Law, we specialise in divorce law and act as a cost effective alternative to large law firms. We offer advice for clients involved in formal divorce proceedings, and prioritise dealing with the matter sensitively to ensure clients feel supported through the process.

The decision to end a marriage is serious, and must be treated as such. Our specialist family solicitors work to alleviate your stress and, under instruction, can receive Court papers on your behalf. We work with you to gather all relevant information and assist in preparing and issuing the petition. Our advice will cover all issues you may need to consider in divorce proceedings, including matters related to finances and children, for example. You must have been married for at least a year and your marriage must have broken down with no possible prospects of reconciliation.

How long will my divorce proceedings take?

Divorce proceedings take between six and nine months, and petitioners cannot apply for their conditional order for at least six months after the petition is issued and these timescales need to be factored into your thinking. Please note this process may take longer if issues regarding finances are not resolved swiftly. Finances may include assets such as the marital home, so can inevitably be a sensitive aspect of such a procedure. We also ask that our clients do not ignore correspondence from their partner’s solicitor or divorce papers they may receive, as this may disrupt the proceedings.

We also offer a fixed fee service in the circumstances that your divorce proceedings are uncontested. Book a 30 minute consultation with us below, or for more information on how we can help:

Client Testimonials

Thanks very much for all your sterling help through what has been a horrible time.

Mrs M  –  Brighton

Sarah Dummett and Ellie Chapman provide a first class, client focused service. Their advice and approach is accessible while robust.

Ayisha Robertson, Barrister

I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for your services, advice and much help you gave me this year. You were very kind and patient with me Lucy and I could not have got through it without you.

Ms C

I had a protracted and complicated divorce and I could not have wished for a better solicitor. The divorce process and all the associated financial negotiations are complex and come at a time when you are emotionally fraught, stressed and at a low ebb. Having a solicitor who is fair, firm and practical and clearly explained the options at every stage makes such a huge difference.

Lucy enabled me to balance getting the fairest settlement with retaining a workable relationship with my ex. There were no surprise, superfluous bills or actions taken that I wasn’t 100% comfortable with, which is so important.

She was available to chat on the phone and I far preferred dealing with one solicitor, who personally knew my case, rather than going via a larger firm where you do not receive such a focused, expedited approach.

I would 100% recommend Lucy to my closest friends and family.

Ms S – Hove

Many thanks for your advice and guidance throughout this very stressful process. Your careful and considered approach, your good advice and your empathetic professionalism have helped to reduce my anxiety levels immeasurably. I would wholeheartedly and unreservedly recommend your services to anyone going through this horrible process.
