Fees

Fees Table | Brighton and Hove Law - Family Law Specialists - Solicitor Advocates
We recognise the need for transparency and for clients to know what their matter is going to cost them from the outset.

We provide some services on a fixed fee basis to assist you with budgeting.

Where matters cannot be dealt with on a fixed fee basis once we have taken your instructions we will be able to give you a clear idea of what your case will cost you.

We charge an hourly rate and will provide you with regular costs updates and reviews.

The amount of work you do yourself will also affect your fees. Your solicitor will discuss with you what you can do to minimise your legal costs.

In some cases solicitor fees can be deferred until the conclusion of your case and some people may find  they have legal expenses insurance on a household policy.

All options will be discussed with you at a free initial consultation.

There may also be Court costs applicable to your case.

PROBATE FEES

Getting Probate

1) On small estates where the shorter form of Inland Revenue Account can be used we normally charge between £850 and £1,250 [+VAT] to obtain a Grant of Probate

2) On estates where IHT is payable or where it is necessary to use the longer form of Inland Revenue Account in order to claim tax exemption we normally charge between £2,750 and £4,500 [+VAT] to obtain a Grant of Probate

Administering the Estate

3) Our fees post-grant – for the administration of the estate including gathering in the assets, paying legacies and liabilities, producing an Estate Account and distributing the estate – are charged at an hourly rate of £240 [+VAT] and typically these fees range between £1,500 and £5,000 depending on the size and complexity of the estate. N.B. these fees are based on the time spent not charged as a percentage of the value of the estate.

Disbursements

4) These are normally limited to Probate Court fees which are currently £155. Small additional disbursements are often incurred to obtain copies of certificates and grants.

Further information about court fees are available on Justice HM Courts & Tribunals Service.
