Now that most schools have broken up for the summer holiday children are at home. NSPCC last summer received 453 calls and emails about young children being left at home alone and unattended by an adult. 366 of those calls and emails received were serious enough to be passed on to the police and social services to deal with.
However the law in England and Wales does not currently have a specific age requirement to which a child can be left at home unattended by an adult.
Ex-Pirelli model Christina Estrada has been awarded £53m in her divorce settlement. She had initially wanted a settlement of £196m to meet her “needs” from the Saudi Sheik Walid Juffali. The wealthy businessman had previously offered Ms Estrada a settlement of £37m which she had rejected in the hope for more. The total settlement now after taking into account her own assets would amount to a mammoth £75m. Her lawyers described this settlement: “the largest needs award ever made by an English court”.
The case involves Ms Roocraft who was in a civil partnership with her partner Ms Aincow who died in 2013 and appeared to have a number of hidden business assets worth millions of pounds. She had been in an 18 year relationship with her wealthy property partner until they separated in 2009.
During proceedings Ms Aincow had submitted to court that her wealth had been significantly hit because of the economic recession. This led to Ms Roocraft accepting a £162,000 settlement sum from Ms Aincow in 2010.
